About the club
Andrew Haggar, working under the auspices of the European Golf Design Team branch of the European Tour, designed the course at San Domenico Golf Club. The site, near the coastal hamlet of Savelletri (in the area of a settlement founded by the Greeks named Egnazia) in the Apulia region, was fairly level and unimpressive, but much work has gone into sculpting the landscape and making it aesthetically appealing. Thus the ancient olive trees are complemented by the thoughtful addition of stands of native vegetation. The landscape and the play are enlivened by views of the Adriatic Sea from each hole and the breezes that it generates. Though the 6392-meter length makes the San Domenico ready for tournament play—the club now hosts the PGA European Challenge Tour Grand Final—a generous selection of teeing options accommodates all kinds of players, in defiance of the stereotype about resort courses.
