About the club
The Umesato The Umesato course at the private Chiba Country Club is the work of Koukichi Asada, and it attracted the 1962 Japanese Open Championship soon after it was completed. Taizo Kawata undertook renovations in 2004, in particular taking advantage of more recent grasses that are playable year round in order to do away with the double greens. Located on a spur of land that juts out into Tokyo Bay, Chiba is one of the over hundred and fifty clubs that have been built in the region during the boom in the game that began after the war and have made the Chiba Prefecture the epicenter of Japanese golf. At over 6500 meters in length, the Umesato remains ready for tournament play, but the standard men's tees shorten things up considerably. Carefully positioned bunkers and raised and contoured greens compensate for the fairly level ground on which the course is built.
