Eagle Point Golf Club
About the club
Taizo Kawata, a great promoter of golf in Japan, designed the course at Eagle Point Golf Club near the turn of the millennium. Opening as it did in the midst of Japan's extended economic downturn, Eagle Point is one of the more recent golfing destinations in the country, and it also remains one of the lesser known, having yet to attract a major competition, apart from the Japan Golf Tour Championship, which the club has hosted since 2003. Kawata made excellent use of the fine location, lining the rolling fairways with native trees and using water to create intriguing and appealing hazards. The course also benefits from following what has been the common practice in recent Japanese courses of allowing for a judicious space between the championship tees and the men's standard tees, so that everyday players can here shave some thousand yards off the tournament length.
