East Course at Kasumigaseki Country Club
About the club
Koichi Ono and Torakichi "Pete" Nakamura put the East Course at Kasumigaseki Country Club on the map with their 1957 victory in the Canada (now World) Cup, when they edged out such competitors as Gary Player, Roberto de Vicenzo, and the US team of Jimmy Demaret and Sam Snead. Their success was largely a product of their mastery of the short game: thus Nakamura holed from the bunker four times and always managed to get up and down from a greenside bunker in just two. Japan's victory in this tournament boosted not only Kasumigaseki, but golf in general throughout the country, and before long only the US was home to more golfers. The nicely maintained East Course has changed little since it was first laid out in the 1920s, and though improvements have been made in the grasses used on the course, it still features the old-style double greens.
