Narita Golf Club
About the club
Located near the Tokyo Airport some forty miles outside the city, Narita was founded in 1964 as a private club. The site features rolling, but not mountainous, terrain that makes it perfect for golf. Owing to its proximity to the capital, Narita was designed to appeal to the corporate crowd as a place for leisure and for making contacts. The current course was laid out by one of the biggest names in Japanese golf, Taizo Kawata, who is not only a designer, but also a sportswriter, commentator and member of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. Narita is a late example of Japanese golf before the economic travails that have plagued the country in recent decades. But while fiscal belts have been tightened over the years, this club remains well appointed and well maintained. The course is of championship length, but offers a generous range of tee positions.
