About the club
Seiichi Inoue laid out the course at the semi-private Ryugasaki Golf Club, which is notable for the fact that ladies tees were not part of the original design, and have never been incorporated into it. The city for which the club is named has grown considerably over the years and is now home to many who commute the fifty miles to Tokyo. The membership accordingly includes a number of important figures in commerce and business who ensure Ryugasaki's high profile in Japanese golf, which is reflected in the fact that the Japan Open was held here in 1992. The site has some relief, including natural drainage ditches that figure in the play, as do the dense trees. Like many courses of Ryugasaki's vintage, double greens here feature different grasses that are better in different seasons, and in effect allow for various approaches to the holes throughout the year.
