Wago Course at Nagoya Golf Club
About the club
The defining feature of the Wago course is the trees that border the fairways and the diminutive and strategically bunkered greens. Players will want to get warmed up before a round, since the very first hole is a real challenge, requiring not only a straight drive to stay out of the woods but also careful placement in order to make the well-defended green. The 2nd demands a similar combination of precision and power to clear the water hazard. As often with older courses, the rolling fairways provide little in the way of level stances. Another indication of the course's age is the double green system. Players also need to think through the doglegs, which, while not numerous, in a number of instances angle off near to the tee. The Nagoya Golf Club has hosted the most venerable event on the PGA Japan Tour, the Chunichi Crowns, for half a century.
