Keene Trace Golf Club
About the club
The Champion Trace course at Keene Trace has ranked inside the top five in Kentucky in most of our rankings since the Arthur Hills course opened in the late 1980s. Routed on the rolling hills you'd expect on the site of a former horse farm, Champion Trace hosted the 1993 NCAA Championship and the 1994 U.S. Senior Amateur—and after new ownership took over the property in 2015, the course underwent some significant improvements ahead of hosting the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship for the first time in 2018.

A college golf tournament was being held here 3/25/24. I called the night before to see what time spectator carts would be available and price. I was told $100 and 6:30 am. NEVER have we paid this much for a cart. Now it was supposed to be 36 holes, but at that last year we were charged $25 at another course! They cut this short to 32 holes due to getting dark. I get in line with another man from MO at 6:20, other people follow. A guy tells us we shouldn't be standing in line, they don't open till 6:30. It's 10 min! Carts as you can see from my receipt were $120! I told him this was not what I was told the day before, he said it was the price that day and I could pay or move aside. VERY RUDE! Then I don't know how many times the "f" bomb was used by employees with these college kids. When a ball was hit from the ground instead of a mat, the employee said "Don't hit the f'n ball off the f'n ground!" Just one instance. They are employees, these are college students whose coaches just paid good money to get into this tournament at this place, and they want to talk like that while on the job at what is "supposed to be" a nice golf course. The cart paths are ridiculously rough, needs lots of repairs. Look at the worn out tires on these carts too!! This is a place I would vote a thumbs down on employees for sure.

We love Keene Trace!! We had our rehearsal dinner here and arranged for a cocktail and dessert hour afterwards for out of town friends and family. We have tricky food allergies which made the menu a little complicated, but Yancey pulled it off without a hitch! So beautiful and an awesome spot for bringing people together. Thanks again!

I photographed Matt and Allyson's wedding here in 2021. I highly recommend it as a wedding venue. Even though it is a golf course, they really make it a beautiful wedding venue and the staff are so welcoming. There are a lot of great locations for portraits, and during the spring, check out the blooming trees behind the clubhouse.
