About the club
North Haven Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine, is one of the last genuinely private summer colonies in America — a year-round island community of 350 residents (summer population rises to ~2,000) that has maintained its social structure for over 150 years. The North Haven Yacht Club is the organizing institution of island life, hosting the Fox Island Thursday Races — the oldest continuous yacht race in Maine. The summer families of North Haven are some of the oldest in American summer colony history: Cabot, Forbes, Saltonstall, and Payson.
