About the club
The St. Charles, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is the only course that features nine holes by Alister MacKenzie and another nine by Donald Ross, and is naturally one of the most celebrated in Canada's middle provinces. (A third nine by Norman Woods is very much overshadowed.) The unique stylings of the two legendary course architects are very much in evidence, in particular MacKenzie's flashed bunkers and Ross's elevated greens. MacKenzie's achievements here include the subtle green on the 503-yard, par 5 5th, and for Ross the par 3 6th beside a meandering stream. Despite their different strengths and approaches, the two designers' holes are well integrated. The St. Charles has attracted all of the country's major venues, from the Canadian Men's and Women's Opens to the Canadian Senior Open before that event was discontinued. American designer Mike DeVries has recently turned his hand to restoring the work of the old masters.
