The dramatic drive to the luxury Paradise Village complex, located outside Puerto Vallarta in convenient proximity to the international airport, takes visitors under a looming arch of stone in the style of the temples built by the Maya. Players may want to call on the ancient deities for help when tackling Robert von Hagge's course here, since it features water hazards on two thirds of the holes and three intimidating "beach bunkers." Von Hagge has designed a number of courses in Mexico, and knows how to get the most out of the tropical landscape. Memorable holes include the par 4 5th, a dogleg with a water carry; the par 8 6th, which plays to an island green further protected by a pot bunker; and the devilish, 600-yard par 5 finishing hole, edged with water along one side. The luxurious clubhouse includes a spa. The course takes its name from a facility off the 17th that cares for rescued Bengal tigers.
