About the club
Northwood sits on an elevated site with arresting views of Lake Superior. Built in 1921, the steep terrain was baffling to route and challenging to build on in the era before most construction jobs used modern earth-moving equipment. Ross solved the puzzle by layering the holes up and down the slopes like switchback roads, forcing him to do things he ordinarily wouldn’t. The third hole climbs some 100 feet from tee to green, while the 10th plays across the pitched hill. Keeping the tee ball in the fairway is, at best, awkward. The greens do not have much interior contour, but the tilted surfaces require expert surveying skills. In recent years, some judicious tree clearing and a change in maintenance have resulted in firm and fast playing surfaces.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our wedding reception at Northland Country Club was absolutely perfect — truly everything I hoped and dreamed it would be! From the very beginning, Lacey, the event manager, was incredible to work with. She was kind, attentive, and personable every step of the way — answering every question, helping me bring my vision to life, and going above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. Her attention to detail and genuine care made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about the outdoor patio, which made the perfect setting for our cigar bar. The venue itself is elegant yet welcoming, and the staff — from the chefs to the waitstaff and bartenders — were all so professional and kind. We are beyond grateful to Lacey and the entire Northland team for making our wedding day unforgettable. The most challenging greens I've tried to read in MN, the clock guide was challenging to try and decipher. Can't wait to play it a 2nd time, definitely a few holes where an iron off the tee takes trouble out of reach. Backdrop views of superior were breathtaking
