About the club

Robert W. Nicholson, Jr liked to be called Bob by his friends and family. Bob was in many sea battles in WWII, and even escaped his sinking ship and swam to the shore of Pearl Harbor – as soon as his ship was repaired he went right back out to sea. Bob went straight from service in the Navy, to working for Western Tablet & Stationery where he worked for 39 years. Western Tablet & Stationery changed to WestTab, and then was eventually bought by Mead. The Nicholson Family owned horses from 1956 – 1980, and at one time they owned a total of 72 horses. One of the family's favorite horses was a spunky little shetland named "Dinger". They loved him and he loved the neighbor's grass. Dinger was a wily little horse and could not be kept inside a fence when the temptation of the neighbor's freshly mowed lawns called to him. He never moved so slowly as he did on the walks home from "visiting". The horses kept the grass so short that a visiting executive from Bob's work remarked that the land would make a lovely golf course. And so their dream to provide a fun family-oriented place to play golf began. Bob's longtime friend Ron Goulette was happy to help. He began building the first nine holes of the golf course in 1972 and within three years they were open for business. This 9 hole course was in operation for seven years before the final 9 were added. For the last 30 year the golf course has been owned by the Nicholson Family and are looking to the future to create a welcoming place for families to come and spend the day golfing together and enjoying the beautiful land they love so much. As it sits today Stillwater Oaks Golf Course is an 18 hole golf course with beautiful rolling hills and breathtaking views. This par 71 course is considered one of the long standing fun places to play in the Stillwater area.
