I was in Wilmington over the Christmas holiday and quickly took a drive by. Lovely presentation. Amazed at its location. Due to its storied history in NC, I found it to be quite charming.

Visited during my trip to Wilmington. As it’s a very popular and well-known spot, I had high hopes. For a place that is considered such a “premier” destination, you would think they’d know how to treat people better, regardless of membership status. My friend and I were simply looking around when we were immediately met with disrespect from the staff — under the assumption that we were not members. I can only assume this was because we are women of color in a setting that appeared entirely Caucasian. I am not one to make things about race, but the sheer attitude and lack of respect we experienced was very telling. In a place where hospitality should matter, they could have simply asked if we were members before assuming and treating us as “less than.” We remained polite, yet we were shooed away as if we were wreaking havoc. Even though we immediately respected their wishes to leave, a rude woman at the pool literally stood guard, watching us get into our car like she was a pit bull, and even called security while we were already leaving — as if we were criminals. To make matters worse, she made us take a long lap to reach our car instead of letting us exit the way we came in to spite us, which was entirely unnecessary considering our politeness and understanding. Overall, this was an extremely uncomfortable experience with unprofessional and poorly trained staff. For such an expensive country club, consider investing in a clear “Private Property” sign or lock the pool gate — instead of barking at people who walked through a literal open door. Do better.

Unfortunately, the staff at this resort were incredibly rude. For a place that is so well-known and where people spend so much money, I expected professionalism and basic manners. Instead, the staff spoke to me dismissively and without courtesy. As a woman of color who remained polite the entire time, it was very disappointing to be treated this way. Hospitality should be at the core of a resort experience, and sadly, that was completely lacking here. I would not recommend this resort.

The club is beautiful. They offer tennis, golf, pool, dining and great kid's programs. The fitness center is new and offers a variety of classes. The staff is top notch!
