About the club
Anton Philips established Golf Eindhoven in 1930, and enlisted Harry S. Colt to lay out the course. The conditions in the Netherlands resemble those of Britain and Scotland, so Colt was able to bring his experiences there to bear on a site that is inland from the beach amid thick woods. Two strings of holes circle a lake before returning to a lovely rustic clubhouse. The lake itself is not a factor, however, because it was Colt's style to use only water hazards that would naturally be in the line of play. Thus some pools and streams on the property do figure in the strategy, as do abundant evergreens and heather. The rough is tough to escape, but the fairways are generous. In typical Colt fashion, imposing bunkering protects the greens. Over the years the club has attracted a number of Dutch Opens, and not too long ago hosted the Dutch Ladies Open.
