About the club

The course at Hilversum has been through many changes over the years. The preliminary layout dates to 1917; Harry S. Colt then created his own design in the mid 1920s; Guy Campbell carried out major renovations in the 1950s; and Kyle Phillips of the US has introduced significant alterations, most importantly rethinking the greens. Nevertheless, the experience remains that of a thrilling trek through a forested vintage course rather than a slog through a contemporary behemoth. The club had what it took to attract a number of Dutch Opens over the years, and it has thrown some of the top pros for a loop. As far as the challenges go, bunkering is minimal and largely ornamental, but the trees and heather are by contrast lovely snares for the unwary. The routing here is flexible, though once all the renovation is complete the numbering of the holes will presumably be set.
