Baltusrol Golf Club - The Upper

About the club

One of two fine layouts at Baltusrol Golf Club, located in New Jersey about twenty miles from New York City, the Upper Course has benefited from renovations carried out by, among others, Robert Trent Jones in 1990 and by his son Rees Jones some time later. Thankfully the lovely entrance and welcoming clubhouse retain their vintage charm. The course has never been the great tournament draw that its sister Lower Course has, and is better known as a bastion of golf tradition that is at the same time a true test of golf. The lovely location is characterized by rolling terrain, and a careful choice of tees is crucial to cope with the fact that lies are apt to be on sloping ground. The opening hole eases players into a round, serving as a kind of warm-up, though a fine driving range has emerged from the renovations.
