About the club
Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club was established in 1967 by brothers William "Bill" and Dan Ogletree. The Ogletrees initially laid out the Club as part of a housing development and worked with highly revered golf course architect Desmond Muirhead for the first round of design. Muirhead, known best for his unconventional hole designs, cleverly incorporated natural obstacles for the layout. Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club does not have any record of hosting championships verified through reputable sources. Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club operates as a private institution. Membership is limited and subject to approval by the club committee. Outside play and reciprocals are allowed on a restricted basis. 1. W. Alto Country Club is truly one of the premier communities in the Ruidoso and Alto area. The location alone is incredible — surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, cool summer weather, and some of the most peaceful views you’ll find anywhere in southern New Mexico. The golf courses are outstanding. They’re challenging, beautifully maintained, and always a pleasure to play, whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just enjoying time on the course with friends or clients. Beyond golf, the club hosts excellent events throughout the year that really bring the community together and make membership feel special. What truly sets Alto apart, though, is the staff. From the golf shop to the clubhouse and event teams, everyone is welcoming, professional, and genuinely invested in creating a great experience for members and guests alike. As a local real estate broker, I spend a lot of time introducing people to the lifestyle options in Alto, and Alto Country Club consistently stands out. It represents the best of mountain living — recreation, community, and quality all in one place. Highly recommend Alto Country Club for the golf, the events, the people, and the lifestyle it offers.

We had the Annual JRoberts Co-workers Christmas White Elephant Gift exchange at the Club. It was beyond perfect. Nice table decor with Christmas Spirit. Wonderful Server. Portions so big we all had carry out boxes. Shrimp cooked to perfect. Fajitas were very generous. And price point, I must say less expensive than some of the places in Ruidoso. Atmosphere was just what we needed. The fireplace, Christmas tree and the wreath above the fireplace were well decorated. And we had a blast. The girls felt like princesses. Dress to the 9’s. All the attire worn was from JROBERTS in Ruidoso. JROBERTS is generational. We are there to help you. So thanks again ACC for the special evening event. Thanks to Annette K for her generosity. Thank you Gretchen Chase for the evening and gifts for each girl. Much appreciated and the collaboration between JROBERTS and Alto Country Club was a wining combination.

Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club is a hidden mecca in the desert southwest! It boasts 3 excellent golf courses, each with great dining facilities. Beautiful Mountain View’s and an array of wildlife. Dining and events at each clubhouse is top notch!
