Pound Ridge Golf Club
About the club
Pete Dye designed the course at Pound Ridge Golf, his first in New York, in 2008. This public, pricey daily fee layout in Westchester County an hour outside New York City extends through and by deciduous forest, open grasslands, marsh and rugged cliffs. Dye's course creates some tempting risks but punishes wild shots severely. Among the challenges are serious distances, sometimes more than two hundred yards, from tees to landing areas on some holes, water hazards and cliffs. The signature hole is the 15th, called the Headstone for reasons that become obvious when you play it: abundant water hazards wait to gobble up botched short shots and the long and narrow putting surface is framed by a stony bluff. Also memorable is the 454-yard closing hole, which plays uphill so that the drive has to clear trees to reach a hidden fairway. A full-service clubhouse was recently completed.
