About the club

Terrace Downs in Darfield, less than an hour outside Christchurch to the west, is a truly unique course. The land on this part of the South Island is shaped by the frequently snow-capped Southern Alps mountain range stretching southwest to northeast, the coast where the population is concentrated, and a broad plain between. This being New Zealand, the setting is naturally picturesque. The layout works its way through a onetime streambed and is generally very level, while being defined on either side by bluffs tufted with evergreen groves. Some excavation was clearly done to add contours and to create the water hazards on several of the holes. In the distance the persistent cloud is usually to be seen floating next to one of the peaks that has given Darfield the nickname of The Town under the Arch, in like manner as Cape Town's Table Mountain has its Table Cloth.
