Cleghorn Plantation Golf Club
About the club
In 1752, King George II of Great Britain gave William Cleghorn a “King’s Grant” of 2,000 acres in Rutherford County, North Carolina. coursephoto14William settled in Rutherfordton, married Lettice Cleghorn and started a family. They slowly built Cleghorn Plantation into a self-sufficient farm and community, planting corn, cotton, and other crops to support themselves. In 1837, the Manor House was built where descendants of William and Lettice lived for many years. The house survives to this day. Over a period of time, land was sold by the Cleghorn family to pay their expenses. In 1972, they retained George Cobb, a well known golf architect, to design the Cleghorn golf course as we know it today. Mr. Cobb also designed over 100 courses including the Par 3 course at Augusta National as well as Quail Hollow in Charlotte. Cleghorn Plantation has been upgraded from tee to green so your golf experience is second to none. The course tips out at 6762 yards with a course rating of 73. 3 and slope of 136.
