What a wonderful place! My daughter had her first high school golf match here, and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. A special thank you to Tim in the Pro Shop—he allowed my daughter to use a golf caddy and treated her like she had been there a hundred times.
Hidden gem! Super fun layout of a course. Better shape than a lot of courses in Wake and surrounding counties. Cart paths need a little work but the course is in GREAT shape and well maintained. Greens are amazing and fairways are flush. Tim, the head pro, is a great coach too if you are in need of lessons. Highly recommend.
Playing for the first time, I can say that I was not prepared for this course and shot a 90 from the tips. Not a terrible score for a first time, and I'll know what to do now. Onto the review.
Tee Boxes 4/5 - There was not a ton of wear on the tee boxes in general, some placements made tee shots difficult however.
Fairways 4/5 - considering the undulations and slopes throughout the course, having full fairways is essential. They do a good job keeping them full, though the grass type makes for interesting lies.
Greens 5/5 - Only 1 green had problems, 17, because a mower leaked a trail of oil and killed a foot and a half wide strip across the green. Other than that, they roll at a 10 with tricky pin placements near slopes.
Bunkers 3.5/5 - I usually only rate bunkers if I end up in one. I ended up in so many today. The rank is 3.5 only due to the inconsistencies in the sand type and some with rocks in them. Some had fine, light sand, others had mid-weight sand.
Amenities 3.5/5 - Good sized two tier putting/chipping green. Driving range, runs parallel to hole 1. I personally don't like that, since finding your ball amongst others is an unnecessary hassle. No practice bunker.
Layout 4/5 - Somebody got a plot of land in a hilly area and decided to make a golf course. It shows as well, with significant elevation changes throughout both up and downhill. Tee box placement proximity to trees makes accuracy off the tee paramount. There are some tight fairways, a couple of gamble style holes, and forced layups on top of a bunch of blind shots. It's challenging to say the least. Either have a GPS to show you, or a local to guide you.
Overall, for $50 it isn't a bad deal. You definitely need to be prepared however.
