Miklagard Golf
About the club
The spirits of the Viking gods haunt Miklagard Golf Club, which is located outside Oslo to the north in a region called Ullensaker after the god Ull, stepson of the mighty Thor. Every hole on the course is called after some ancient deity or hero; and the club itself takes its name from the Norse term for Constantinople (now Istanbul). Robert Trent Jones designed the layout in 2002, and though it is strongly reminiscent of contemporary American architecture, Jones did go out of his way to work in the native surroundings and flora, and there is a fair amount of relief. The parkland layout measures a full 6765 meters from the tips, and it is spacious; and, as with all Jones productions, mature trees and shrubs have been planted so that his vision is clear from the start. The major challenges are in the form of a thick rough and water hazards.
