About the club
Pete Dye's course at the members-only Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio, was one of his first to achieve recognition, in particular owing to the way he incorporated details found on the classic courses of Scotland, such as railroad tie bulkheads. Created in the mid-Sixties, the 6646-meter, par 72 layout was constructed help from a young Jack Nicklaus, who learned much that would be useful when he went on to open his own architecture firm. Fred Jones, who established the club, gave Dye a site of more than three hundred splendid acres and no budgetary restraints, and the result is a set of distinctive holes that feature outstanding shots, intriguing green complexes and superb use of native water in the form of Blacklick Creek, which is in play on more than half. One standout is the 13th, which measures over 350 yards and tempts power drivers to approach a well-bunkered island green in one.
