Bigwin Island Golf Club
About the club
Stanley Thomson began the work here, but designer Doug Carrick made it his own. Play here is one-of-a-kind, beginning with the short boat trip to Bigwin Island, where the breathtaking red and white clubhouse and 18th green greet golfers at the dock. After somewhat uninspired opening holes, the course lives up to the promise of that grand entrance, beginning with the par 4 6th, which offers dramatic scenery for a tee shot a hundred feet down to the fairway. The par 5 final hole, one of Canada's outstanding 18ths, plays downhill to its lakeside green. During the 1920s, an early course on the island was at the heart of culture in the region; guests at the cottages around Muskoka would golf during the day and take in big-name entertainment acts in the evening. While that excitement has passed, the pristine setting of the modern course is not to be missed.
