Glen Abbey Golf Club
About the club
From its opening in 1975, the Glen Abbey was the sole host the Canadian Open for two decades, being the scene of victories for Greg Norman and Nick Price, until the decision was made to move the tournament around the country. Designed with the PGA tournament in mind, the course represents Jack Nicklaus' debut as sole designer, and is not considered his best work. The site lacks much in the way of natural relief, so Nicklaus sculpted the greens and built the bunkers deep, and he did manage at least a couple triumphs. The par 4 11th plummets a hundred feet down into a river valley and across 16 Mile Creek to a miniature green, and nearly cost Vijay Singh his victory in the 2004 Open. Similarly impressive is the finishing hole, which garnered fame for the epic shot that Tiger Woods made to clinch his 2000 Open victory.
