About the club
Some call this course Canada's best, and it is certainly a triumph for the most renowned Canadian designer, Stanley Thompson. The course was originally part of the Royal York Golf Club owing to its association with what remains one of Toronto's premier hotels. Thompson's superb design here takes advantage of an intriguing setting amid natural hills and valleys, and was the site of the Canadian Open three times in its early years, and again in 2010. The par 4 first hole is of moderate length, but the 2nd, at 466 yards, leads from the tee over a broad lowland to a well-bunkered green. Unlike on many courses, most of the holes here play over rather than along the ravines. Standout holes include the exceedingly difficult par 4 7th, which plays uphill to a partially sloped green. Renovations in 2002 restored the bunkers to their original positions and imposing look.
