About the club

The fairly average St. Thomas Golf and Country Club in southern Ontario is home to a top-notch course. This was one of Stanley Thompson's first layouts, and it has undergone extensive reworking at the hands of Ian Andrew and Robbie Robinson. The course makes the most of its contoured parkland setting. There are a number of exquisite holes, beginning with the 413-yard 3rd, which keeps golfers guessing as it plays along Bear Creek, demanding a precise shot off the tee to reach a highly sloped green. The water also defines the par 5 15th, which presents numerous challenges along its 556 yards. Then there is the 453-yard, par 4 16th, which plunges downhill to a green that slopes sharply, a strategy that comes into play a number of times here. Though it is a ways from any major city, students of Canada's premier course architect continue to seek out the St. Thomas.
