About the club
Famed British architect Harry S. Colt is responsible for only two courses in Canada, and one of these is the Toronto, which in typical Colt fashion allows the natural contours of the land to dictate the design. The course attracted the Canadian Open five times in its first three decades. It starts out on level ground not far from Lake Ontario, but things get trickier beginning with the 4th, which Colt created as a Redan, where the surroundings shape the shots. The 448-yard, par 4 5th is even more challenging, since tee shots must drive from the right to the left. What follows are more slopes and valleys, and it all wraps up on the tricky green of the short, par 4 18th in the shadow of the vintage clubhouse. British designer Martin Hawtree was enlisted in 2009 to reconstruct some of the greens, add some bunkering and reshape the fairways.
