Pronghorn Golf Club
About the club
Bandon Dunes set the standard for golf courses on the Oregon coast, but there is also fine land for the game in the inland part of the state. Jack Nicklaus created his eponymous course at Pronghorn near the city of Bend; Tom Fazio designed the club's other eighteen. The style of the place becomes apparent when you drive up to the lodge-style clubhouse, which, like the housing in the background, blends in with the natural surroundings. Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping and putting greens and a golf academy. Nicklaus' course is long, at 6749 meters, and is kept in tip-top shame, in particular with regard to its bentgrass greens. Enough cannot be said about the striking vistas of the Cascade Mountains; the view from the raised tee on the par 4 13th is simply unforgettable. Golf does not get better than this anywhere in Oregon.
