Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club
About the club
The 27 holes at Mount Malarayat, a development around 50 miles outside Manila, are built on what was once a coconut orchard. At 1200 feet of elevation, the setting offers gentle winds and a picturesque landscape that make for a nice walking layout. Each of the nines is oriented so that the very first tee looks out on the particular peak for which each is named, Malipunyo, Lobo and Makuiot. The last two seem to make up the preferred combination eighteen, though there are fun and intriguing holes on all three, and the dogleg signature hole (and one of the world's top 500, according to Golf Digest) is actually the 7th on the Makuiot nine. Be sure to engage a caddie for some insight on how to tackle the numerous tough shots onto terraced greens. The Philippine Open was won here in 2009 by local hero Elmer Salvador.
