Humber Valley Golf Course - River Course
About the club
The Humber Valley on Newfoundland is well off the beaten path (though there is an airport nearby), but its remarkable contemporary design makes it a golf destination. Designer Doug Carrick has made excellent use of the highly varied topography to create a striking contemporary layout. His imposing bunkers, for example, match the scale of the environs, as can be seen on the very first hole. The signature hole is probably the 10th, which stretches for 458 yards from a tee shot that plunges a hundred feet to the river for which the resort is named, and is subject to the shifting breezes. The course then continues to follow the river until it reaches the par 5 18th, which launches from a raised tee to the green next to the clubhouse. The residential complex with which the resort is associated has had some financial problems, but that hasn't affected the golf.
