About the club

The Memphrémagog (or Magog as the members call it), the brainchild of Canadian tycoon Paul Desmarais II and his business partner Jean Monty, is perhaps the most private course anywhere in Canada, with a membership of only forty that is drawn largely from among Montreal's movers and shakers. Architect Thomas McBroom was enlisted to lay out the holes, and he made full use of the setting. The 10th is a good example: starting off from close to the picturesque white clubhouse, it plunges over thirty yards to a green defended by bunkers and a water hazard, making the hole a real challenge. Some may find the greens here a bit much, since the putting areas tend to be quite undulating and demand very careful play, especially given the quickness of modern greens. The harshness of the greens aside, however, there are few finer golfing experiences to be had in the country.
