Mount Bruno Country Club
About the club
Even though Willie Park Jr. designed the course and Thomas McBroom has overseen more recent renovations, Mount Bruno is relatively unheralded among Canada's golfers. The Canadian Open was held there back in 1922, but the club is now more of playground for the power brokers of nearby Montreal, who appreciate the great practice grounds, the European feel, and the fact that a round can be completed in a reasonable amount of time. The holes at Mount Bruno blend seamlessly into their surroundings, with rolling fairways and unpredictable greens, and indeed little excavation seems to have been required during their construction. A good example is the 9th, where the contours complicate the approach. The original design by Park features a nice blend of demanding, lengthy holes, such as the par 4 13th, where trees crowd the fairway, and shorter, more playable holes, of which the par 4 4th is a superb example.
