About the club
The Real Sociedad Hipica Espanola Club de Campo was established in 1901 and was one of the founding institutions when the Spanish Golf Federation formed in 1932. The club moved to a new location in the western part of the Madrid metro area in the 1990s, and US architect Robert von Hagge was enlisted to design two layouts. The Norte, which opened for play in 1997, occupies a gorgeous location with varied topography and native flora, and von Hagge makes the most of it with carefully sculpted fairways, dense rough and large, terraced greens. Measuring almost 6500 meters, the layout has considerable length, though players can choose the tee positions that match their own abilities. Good scores will come with a combination of distance off the tee and a solid short game. The course is roomy enough, but water is in play on four holes, and there are some tough doglegs.
