Falsterbo Golf Club
About the club
Falsterbo Golfklubb, located in Sweden's far south on the picturesque peninsula from which the club takes its name, dominated Swedish golf for a long time after its first course opened for play in 1912. There is a definite classic English links feel to this oceanside course, both in terms of the landscape and the ever-present wind. Modest in length, the layout seems easy until you account for the wind, which demands low and controlled shots. The setting is part of a nature preserve that is popular with bird watchers. The modern eighteen holes were designed by a local amateur named Gunnar Bauer in 1930, and incorporated two holes from the original 1912 layout. Very little has been done to disturb the 1930 design apart from necessary upkeep, which included refurbishing the greens around the turn of the millennium. Falsterbo is easily reached from Malmo or from the Copenhagen airport.
