Halmstad Golfklubb Tylosand - North Course
About the club
Halmstad Golfklubb was established in 1930 and an architect from Stockholm designed the initial eighteen, which opened in 1938. Continued work on the grounds, much of it done by Frank Pennink and Nils Skold, included another two nines to make two full courses, the North and the South. Both lie along the shore and are built on sand, but trees block any views of the ocean. The classic lines of the earlier layout have been followed throughout the various renovations, so that the feel is reminiscent of the British countryside around Berkshire and Surrey. There is a nice mix of contoured fairways, raised greens and intriguing doglegs; challenges include gullies and streams. Halmstad has managed to attract some tournaments, most notably the 2007 Solheim Cup, won by the American team. Visitors should also play the South Course if they have the chance, which is nearly the equal of the North.
