Vidbynas Golf Club - North Course
About the club
US designers Brian Curley and his colleague Lee Schmidt created the Axa Course (named for a food company in Sweden), one of two at Vidbynas Golf Club in Nykvarn, Sweden, less than an hour west of Stockholm. Curley and Schmidt are used to big jobs such as Landmark and Mission Hills, and their experience shows in the well-proportioned fairways, greens and bunkers, the blend of woodland, parkland and lakeside holes and the strategic use of natural features of the landscape. The challenge comes from forced carries and course management. The layout is a thrill for all with its generous selection of tees. Vidbynas is quite popular, and it welcomes visitors to enjoy the wonderful surroundings, where the tracks of some of the local fauna can occasionally be seen in the morning dew. The course is very walkable, as is the Swedish way, though carts are available.
