Nan Fong Golf Club
About the club
Golf legend Lee Trevino brings his own approach to course architecture. In the words of the president of his company, Arnold Salinas, "We design our courses for the average match-play golfer, not for the pros who compete in medal play. On a medal play course, the hardest holes are generally nine and 18; we stay away from that theory and try to have the toughest holes in the middle of the nine." So it is at Nan Fong Golf Club, which started in 1990 and was rebuilt after an earthquake nine years later: players may be tempted to try some epic drives, but the strategy of the course rewards the ability to reach the green in two for a possible birdie. Located in the island's hilly, landlocked Nantou County, the site offers superb vistas of the surrounding landscape. The fairways follow the ups and downs of the landscape, and the holes coming home are especially sloping.
