About the club

The Emirates Golf Club was quite a ways away from the city when the club opened in the Eighties along the highway to Abu Dhabi. The site was a gift of a member of Dubai's royal family, who stipulated that the native vegetation should be maintained as far as possible. Today the Emirates is an oasis of golf amid the development that has carried like the desert wind across the sand. The flagship course at Emirates Golf Club, The Majlis championship course is a challenging par 72, 7,301-yard layout. The Majlis course has developed a worthy reputation worldwide as a testing layout for even the best golfers. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna, beautifully complemented by meandering fairways and seven fresh and saltwater lakes. The Majlis ("place of gathering" in Arabic) was the first full course here, and it is still a first-rate golfing experience. The course, designed by American Karl Litten, is usually home to the Dubai Desert Classic, a competition that attracts the world's best for the great weather and superb facilities as much as for the quantity of the purse. The fine clubhouse, done up in the style of a Bedouin tent, offers fine dining, swimming, tennis, a gym and a spa. The Majlis course has the honour of hosting the European PGA Tour Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Ladies' European Tour sanctioned Omega Dubai Ladies Masters annually.
