Aberdovey Golf Club
About the club
Aberdovey is a historic club. The course was originally built in the 1800s and like many of that era was shaped by the railroad lines that connected such remote areas with the rest of the British Isles; and in fact the tracks themselves and some abandoned sleeper cars are in play here. The club is also notable for the fact that Bernard Darwin, who competed in the very first Walker Cup and was also one of the earliest accomplished writers on the game, made Aberdovey his home. Among the architects who have contributed to shaping this links layout are Harry S. Colt, James Braid and William Herbert Fowler. The fairways are gently contoured and the greens sculpted, and everything blends seamlessly into the dunes. Raised tees and greens afford scenic outlooks over the impressive scenery. Like many a vintage layout, this one has some obscured tee and fairway shots.
