Brora Golf Club
About the club
Located in the northern extreme of good golfing territory in Scotland, this quaint and highly authentic links course was designed by revered architect James Braid in 1924, and now houses the James Braid Golfing Society, the president of which is none other than Peter Thomson. The course is almost exactly as Braid laid it out nearly a century ago. The front nine holes are set beside the shore, while the back nine follow the fence line of a small tenant farm with the boundary on the right; as at St. Andrews, the key is to play as close to the edge as possible. Everything on the grounds is where it should be; the bunkering and dips are unobtrusive, and the greens blend into their surroundings. A round at Brora complements nicely one at nearby Dornoch, which is better known but not necessarily any more pleasurable to play.
