About the club

If sand dunes have been created for a greater purpose, part of that purpose must be to provide the perfect environment for links courses, an environment that demands only minimal artificial shaping of the land. What is needed is simply to line up some strategic shots that at least become possible when the wind dies down a bit, and to identify the best positions for the greens amid the numerous opportunities afforded by the various shapes taken by the sand. The Mussenden course at Castlerock is just such a course; its first and last few holes work across the sand dunes, and those in between extend over more level ground that remains interesting owing to perturbations in the terrain. Castlerock is overshadowed in the area by such outstanding links as that at Royal Portrush, but it is the only club located west of the historic Bann River.
