Copthorne Golf Club
About the club
The course is a challenging heathland/woodland combination made up of 10 holes which were opened between 1976 and 1984, and 8 which have been in existence since 1903 and possibly earlier - albeit with modifications made by James Braid in the 1930s and by Bill Cox in the early 1980s. The length of the Course was extended in 2015 to 6454 yards, coupled with its overall difficulty, make its Par and Standard Scratch Score of 72 hard to achieve except for the very best of players. The old course record of 64 (when a Par 71) was set in 2004 by Ed Fairbrother. The new course record of 69 (now a Par 72) was set by Mark Logan in the July 2015 Medal, after the introduction of two lengthened par 5s and a par 4 being lengthened to a par 5. The Professional record of 68 was set by Paul Nessling in May 2016 in the Sussex Captain's Professional's Day. The course records can be viewed here. Copthorne has been the venue for many County and Regional Representative events, including the English Boys County Championships.
