Dalmahoy Country Club
About the club
Said by some to be the inland equivalent of the Royal and Ancient, Dalmahoy is located near Edinburgh, the epicenter of golf worldwide. The ancient grounds extend over more than a thousand acres, with two courses that are quite distinct from one another. The East is the club's tournament-ready course, and at 6767 meters it certainly has the length. And indeed numerous amateur and professional competitions have been held here over the years, most notably in 1992, when the European women's team achieved an upset over the American team in the Solheim Cup, a kind of women's Ryder Cup. The West Course, on the other hand, is a mere 4572 meters, but there is a lot of fun to be had by all on the tight fairways and little greens. The original designs for both were done by James Braid, and thankfully his vision has persisted through the various renovations.
