Lindrick Golf Club
About the club
The course here at Lindrick became famous in 1957 when Ireland and England emerged victorious in the Ryder Cup there—for the first time in nearly two and half decades—over the heavily favored US, a feat not repeated for almost another three decades. The 1982 Martini International, in which Bernhard Gallacher emerged victorious, was the last high-profile event held at Lindrick; the course has since been considered to lack the length, and perhaps the spaciousness, that a modern championship venue requires. The mainly parkland layout, enlivened by some evergreens and heather, provides a good challenge, especially for those players who tend to rely heavily on using their drivers. A standout hole is the strong par 3 18th, which plays up a slope to the clubhouse. That (for some overly) rustic clubhouse advertises its history with portraits of some of the famous personages who have graced Lindrick over the years.
