Monifieth Golf Links
About the club
Budden Ness south of Carnoustie is home to a number of quaint, venerable links courses. The game was first played on the generally level ground between Budden Ness and Aberdeen on layouts where over the course of the nineteenth century a number of historic clubs were founded. One of the finest of these is Monifieth, established in 1858. The current design here was created around 1920 by James Braid, who added definition to the pre-existing fairways and greens and brought the bunkering up to snuff. A creek winds its way across the grounds, separating the stretch of links holes from the heathland holes further from the shore. The breeze off the shore is in play throughout. Of the two courses at Monifieth, the 6080-meter, par 71 Medal is the one used for qualifying rounds when the Open comes to Carnoustie, and it has a reputation for being a real challenge.
