Queensbury Golf Club
About the club
The famous Black Dyke Mills Brass Band is perhaps Queensbury’s most famous export, however Queensbury Golf Club shares its roots with the band. Both were started by the Foster Family, owners of the Black Dyke Mills in the village of Queensbury. Then in 1923, the Foster family built the course for their workers. The mills are gone but the club lives on.At first it was just a 6 hole course and later the members bought it out, extended it to a nine hole course and turned it into a private club. Today those philanthropic ideals and community spirit still live on.It is known as a short yet difficult course with some longer uphill par fours. There are some testing holes which require good iron play and a steady short game; otherwise you will find it hard to score well.Despite being 1,000 feet above sea level, there is a surprising number of trees on the course, cunningly integrated into the layout to ensure you have to play for good position on many holes. With Queensbury’s geographical height comes another challenge as playing with strong winds make a tough round for all golfing abilities.
