With its rich heritage dating back to 1824, this esteemed golf club stands as a testament to Scotland's enduring love affair with the sport. As I ventured onto their pristine fairways, I couldn't help but be captivated by the grandeur and prestige that surrounds this golfing institution. The Royal Perth Golfing Society's history is steeped in tradition, making it one of the most distinguished golf clubs in Scotland. Established in an era when golf was predominantly played on links land, the club made its humble beginnings on the North Inch in Perth, where a nine-hole course was laid out. Since those early days, the club has seen various locations, finally finding its current residence in Scone, Perthshire in 1864. This move proved beneficial, as the society was granted its royal status in 1908 by King Edward VII, adding another layer of eminence to its name. Throughout its existence, the Royal Perth Golfing Society has made significant achievements and milestones. Notably, its course record was set in 1974 by local hero John MacDonnel, who achieved a remarkable score of 63. Additionally, the club has held prestigious events over the years, including the Scottish Amateur Championship, cementing its status as a top-tier destination for competitive golf.
