Scotscraig Golf Club
About the club
St. Andrews' Old Course tends to overshadow all the other courses in the area, which is a shame, because many, like Scotscraig, are a real treat. This cozy links course, located where the River Tay empties into the ocean between Dundee and St. Andrews, continues to host qualifying rounds when the Open comes to this part of Scotland, despite the fact that it has never undergone wholesale renovation or even much in the way of lengthening. As a consequence, less advanced players can avoid shame and even have fun here. Some of the ambience comes from the somewhat remote setting; after finding the place you'll feel like you've stumbled onto a real golf secret. An authentic links, Scotscraig is nevertheless somewhat sheltered from the sea breezes, though the abundant trees wait to snare the wide shot. All aspects of the experience here are nicely proportioned, right down to the modest clubhouse.
